Engaging Students during Small Group Teaching Sessions Online
This workshop is open to colleagues from QMU and our collaborative partners.
Participants will be asked to complete ~30 mins of asynchronous preparatory work prior to joining the workshop.
We will be using cameras, microphones and breakout rooms during the session, so you may prefer to join us from a quiet space if this is possible for you.
Workshop Learning Objectives:
By the end of this training you should be able to:
- Identify key features to consider when planning small group teaching sessions (SGTS), both online and on campus.
- Explain the purpose of using an icebreaker at the start of SGTS
- Discuss techniques that may help to engage students during SGTS
- Select the appropriate room layouts for SGTS (for on campus sessions)
- Adapt questioning techniques during SGTS
- Identify appropriate strategies for dealing with common challenges during SGTS
