Scaffolding the use of reporting verbs when citing sources to help develop stance and academic voice in student writing.

Scaffolding the use of reporting verbs when citing sources to help develop stance and academic voice in student writing. Online

This interactive online talk explores how scaffolding the use of reporting verbs can help students' academic writing by helping them develop stance and a stronger academic voice. Participants will examine the role of reporting verbs in citation, discuss common student challenges, and explore strategies for effective writing. Through practical examples and interactive activities, it is hoped attendees will gain insights into how different reporting verbs convey varying degrees of agreement, critique, and neutrality. The session aims to discover practical tools to guide students in making more purposeful language choices, ultimately improving their ability to engage critically with sources in academic writing.
