INSIGHTS Talk: Decolonising the curriculum in neoliberal economies: Exploring issues with power relations and hierarchies in education

We are delighted to welcome back Dr Eric Ekembe for a workshop that puts the ideas he presented on 20 February into practice. Please join us for this workshop & collective discussion!

Given common understanding of the relative value of decolinising the curriculum, I hope to create opportunities for attendees to reflect collaboratively on ways through which they can develop different teaching agenda in neoliberal times, deriving from underrepresented or erased epistemes, the remote beneficiaries being their students. The approach foregrounds socialisation models through participants’ agency and supports this with extant arguments for decoloniality praxis. Part one of the workshop will develop ways through which decolonising the curriculum can be realistic in neoliberal economies, focusing on higher education; part two will provide space for participants to attempt decolonising their knowledge base and power structures drawing from Southern epistemes. The last part will provide room for further reflection on the relevance of such endeavours.
