INSIGHTS Talk: Teaching and learning placements for health students Online
We are delighted to invite colleagues and students to an online event on Tuesday 6th May at 10am with Sarah Bond, who will be talking about how QMU is supporting additional placement capacity for physiotherapy students by developing a Teaching & Learning placement.
You can book your place using the links below.
Physiotherapy students must complete a minimum of 1050 hours of clinical placement to be eligible for registration within the profession. A lack of physiotherapy placement provision throughout Scotland has led institutions to think creatively about how students can fulfil their required placement hours. Physiotherapy is a diverse profession that creates career opportunities in several different practice areas and students' education should prepare them for any future aspirations. There are four pillars of practice - clinical practice, leadership, research and education and traditionally most placements have been under the clinical practice pillar. To create additional placement capacity, we developed a teaching and learning (T and L) placement at Queen Margaret University under the teaching pillar. This session aims to share current practice within the university and explore the challenges, barriers and successes of the initiative. To explore teaching and learning placements as part of healthcare programmes and how the placement model can also develop other transferrable skills which can be implemented across other pillars of practice/professions/programmes. The session will highlight the creativity and innovation in teaching practice that can be used to deliver a T and L placement and demonstrate ways that institutions can implement placements for students to develop their knowledge of teaching, learning and leadership and create opportunities for self-development.
