Anti-Racism in Education. Dr Anthony Schrag - Creative strategies for unknowing - taking risks to encourage equitable relationships in the classroom In-Person

Please join us as our current and past QMU colleagues discuss their chapter contributions to Anti-Racism in Education: Stories of Growing Activism, https://www.criticalpublishing.com/anti-racism-in-education edited by Dr Geetha Marcus and Dr Stefanie Van de Peer. The events will explore the stories of how scholars, researchers and teachers at QMU became part of anti-racist teaching activism through their own growing understanding of racism in education.

In each session, we will have space for questions and discussion and hope to provide a space for learning and sahring of practice. We ask that you commit to these principles explained by Building the Anti-Racist Classroom.

In this session, we welcome Dr Anthony Schrag, who will present his chapter Creative strategies for unknowing: taking risks to encourage equitable relationships in the classroom (Chapter 9). This presentation will explore how artistic approaches might be useful in rethinking traditional power structures of education, and allow space for anti-racist considerations to inform our teaching. The event will feature a short contextualising presentation and discussion (15 min) and then would take the form of a collaborative workshop that would build up a small ‘zine about antiracist approaches in education. No need to prepare anything, just come ready to be reflective and creative!

You can access both physical and digital copies of Anti-Racism in Education: Stories of Growing Activism through QMU Library.
