Anti-Racism in Education. Dr Arek Dakessian - Imagining defragmented university spaces In-Person / Online

Please join us as our current and past QMU colleagues discuss their chapter contributions to Anti-Racism in Education: Stories of Growing Activism, https://www.criticalpublishing.com/anti-racism-in-education edited by Dr Geetha Marcus and Dr Stefanie Van de Peer. The events will explore the stories of how scholars, researchers and teachers at QMU became part of anti-racist teaching activism through their own growing understanding of racism in education.

In each session, we will have space for questions and discussion and hope to provide a space for learning and sahring of practice. We ask that you commit to these principles explained by Building the Anti-Racist Classroom.

In this session, we welcome Dr Arek Dakessian, who will present their chapter Imagining defragmented university spaces (Chapter 12). After a short introduction about the chapter itself and the real-world problem it aimed to articulate, the session will morph into a knowledge-exchange roundtable with participants around the following question: given structural realities outside the immediate control of QMU and other UK universities, how might we establish our classrooms and universities as spaces of anti-racism and education in practice? What strategies do you employ in your academic discipline and in everyday practice towards this, and what can we learn from each other’s practice in this regard?

There is no expeectation to read the chapter beforehand, but if you have time to do so, you can access both physical and digital copies of Anti-Racism in Education: Stories of Growing Activism through QMU Library.
